The English Language

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France (surprise!).

Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose two geese, so one moose, two meese? Doesn't it seem crazy, that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Is it an odd, or an end?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?

Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

P.S. Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"?

Hungry Ghost

I like the smell of the offerings that are being burnt. Does that make me weird? And i have a sudden urge to watch HP and the Goblet of Fire. I have just realised that I have not watched it before. Went for math tuition earlier on and discussed the mock exam with my tutor. I'm going to fail wonderfully but now at least I know where I went wrong and am more motivated to study harder. Bring on the books and a cup of tea please!

Yeah right... snowflakes especially!! Hahah! Feeling a bit bored right now. Home alone studying while my mom and sis go off to visit my grandma who's in quite a bad state at the hospital. She's my Uncle's mom and I really don't think she has much time left as she is starting to experience the same things my Dad did. I'm not really attuned to that side my uncle's side of the family with the distant relative thing going on. Or maybe it's just because I don't want to see someone die. I don't know really.

Little India was fun although I was somewhat of a noob in the area. Okay. I was a total noob. Hahah! The class is to the left! Thanks ZH for e pic.. It would have been a lot more fun than usual if Paul was there so both of us could make fun of some of the stuff we saw there.

But Paul got kicked out of school. I won't mention why here as I know that blogs can be monitored. It was a really sad day but it opened up my eyes even further to things that happen and where some loyalties may lie. Paul , continue to work hard and do your best. The class believes you can do it. And to certain someone who is a sycophant and makes the court of Malfi pale in comparison, you'll get your just desserts. What goes around will definitely come around.
In time to come, you will regret what's been done and by then it will too late. I will personally guarantee it.

Ho Hum Bug.

Parents-teacher meeting tomorrow =x and my group and I have got to meet
Mdm. Chitra for preparation of the debates. Feeling rather bland now... oh yes.. the stupidest thing happened to me today. My handphone battery died the moment i entered school as i forgot to charge it. Now I know what it feels like to be a caveman. The day before I got locked in the house by my Mom!! Haha! She left with my keys and i couldn't get out of the house till 8.30 am.
